Maine Coon presented in this photo:
Dawntreader Texas Calboy
This print showcases a very rare phenomenon in the world of cat genetics:
Dawntreader Texas Calboy was born with a female’s coloration, called calico. His breeders were told that he would be infertile, because the likelihood of getting a calico male that is fertile is extraordinarily rare.
Because they thought he would be infertile, they naturally left him out with all of the female cats. Little did they know that this would end up resulting in multiple pregnancies at once.
They sent off Buccal Swabs to UC Davis for parentage tests in hopes that he is a mosaic chimera which is really rare - because he had been shown to be throwing both red and black.
Results showed that he is a true chimera, and both cell populations were obtained with just a single oral swab.
A very powerful story that gives a lot of meaning to the actual picture.
We wanted to create a scene that symbolizes his masculinity, even if he is colored like a female.
The fog behind him gives the atmosphere a darker mood, but his bright colorful colors contrast it greatly — his expression is that of a proud and fearless male and his calico blends with the colors of the fallen tree he is standing on — a faint camouflage; blending in, even if different.
